Yamaha India has revised the prices of two of its middleweight motorcycles – the Yamaha R3 and the Yamaha MT-03 – following the GST 2.0 reforms. The reduction in GST rates on motorcycles below 350cc has come as a big relief for enthusiasts, making these premium machines more accessible. The move results in a price cut of up to Rs 20,000, further boosting Yamaha’s appeal in the mid-capacity segment.
This announcement comes shortly after Yamaha had already reduced prices of its entry-level models, such as the R15 and FZ series, with benefits of up to Rs 17,581 under the same GST reform.
Yamaha R3 – Revised Price Details
The Yamaha R3, a fully faired supersport motorcycle, was earlier priced at Rs 3.60 lakh (ex-showroom). Post GST reforms, the bike now comes at a reduced price of Rs 3.39 lakh (ex-showroom), translating to a direct benefit of around Rs 20,000 for buyers.
The R3 is powered by a 321cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine, producing 41.4 bhp at 10,750 rpm and 29.5 Nm of torque at 9,000 rpm, mated to a 6-speed gearbox. It features dual-channel ABS, a digital LCD display, lightweight chassis, and a supersport design inspired by Yamaha’s bigger R-series bikes.
With its lightweight frame and performance-oriented setup, the Yamaha R3 is one of the most desirable entry-level sports bikes in India, appealing to both city riders and long-distance touring enthusiasts.
Yamaha MT-03 – Revised Price Details
The naked sibling, Yamaha MT-03, was earlier priced at Rs 3.50 lakh (ex-showroom). After the GST price reduction, it is now available at Rs 3.29 lakh (ex-showroom), giving buyers a relief of Rs 21,000 approximately.
The MT-03 shares its mechanicals with the R3, as it is based on the same 321cc parallel-twin engine delivering identical 41.4 bhp and 29.5 Nm of torque. However, its aggressive streetfighter design, upright riding stance, and muscular looks give it a distinct identity.
The MT-03 gets features such as LED headlamps, lightweight bodywork, a diamond-type frame, and excellent ergonomics for daily riding and spirited performance.
Why The Price Cut Matters
With this price cut, Yamaha is clearly aiming to make its middleweight offerings more competitive in the Indian market. Both the R3 and MT-03 face competition from bikes like the KTM RC 390, KTM Duke 390, Kawasaki Ninja 300, and Honda CB300R.
Thanks to the revised GST rates, Yamaha now has a stronger value proposition for customers who were earlier hesitant due to the high pricing of these bikes.
