Introduction:                             

Marketing of agriculture produce is called agriculture marketing. Marketing is a process of bringing together the producers and the buyer and his essential to complete the process of production marketing of agriculture produces arises with the commercial agriculture and marketable surplus .Indian farmers now produce not only food crops like rice and wheat but also concentrate on the production of commercial crops like cotton, jute, tobacco, oil seeds etc. The measures taken by the govt. to improve agriculture marketing system.

Measures taken by the government to improve agriculture marketing system:

  1. Establishment of regulated markets: the beginning of the regulated markets can we track back to the Berar cotton and grains market act passed in 1897. The real beginning was made in Bombay by the passing of Bombay cotton market act 1927 and several other states followed the suit the other main characteristics of this market are.

2. Setting up marketing organization: the government maintains marketing organization both at a centre and in the state. The work of such organization fall in three divisions investigation, development, grading and standardization

  • Market surveys: the Government of India conduct country wide marketing survey for important agriculture, horticulture, livestock commodities. the surveys pinpoint the draw back in agricultural markets
  • Marketing extension: in order to keep the farmers abreast about the market situation in the country. The Market extension method is made up of the means of a media like the AIR, films, TV etc. are used to inform the farmers about the prevailing prices and improve methods of marketing.
  • Grading and standard association: In recent years the Government of India has introduced the system of grading and standardization. Grading station are established under agricultural produce act 1937. The graded goods gets the trademark AGMARK to ensure the quality of graded goods laboratories have been set up in the country.

3. Cooperative marketing: The cooperative marketing structure in India has a pyramid like structure with a primary societies at a base level Central marketing societies of middle level and the state marketing societies under state level the national agricultural cooperative marketing federation was set up in 1958 -59 at the all India level to co-ordinate and promote activities of its members.

 4. Provision of storage and warehousing facilities: The main institutional agencies providing storage facilities are the central and state warehousing co-operations, the food corporation of India and the corporation’s the central warehousing corporation was set up in 1962. The national cooperative agriculture marketing federation was set up in 1958. the department of rural development is implementing the scheme for setting up rural go downs to take care of the storage requirement of agriculture produces NABARD plays a historical role in pushing up scientific public were housing in the country .

 Schemes of development of agriculture market 1988: under the scheme all agriculture markets handling various products of agricultural, horticulture pisciculture, viticulture, sericulture, floriculture, minor forest produce, poultry and livestock are entitled to central assistant.
