Air-Conditioned Skywalk Between Blue Line & Aqua Line in Noida to Open Oct 2 — What Commuters Must Know

Skywalk Between Blue Line & Aqua Line in Noida: Noida commuters can look forward to a smoother transfer between metro lines: the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) has announced that the much-awaited, air-conditioned skywalk linking Delhi Metro’s Blue Line (Sector 52 station) with Noida Metro’s Aqua Line (Sector 51 station) is set to open on October 2, 2025.

Key Features & Why It Matters

  • The skywalk spans 420 metres in length and is 5 metres wide, built to handle high footfall between the two stations.
  • Amenities include moving walkways (travellators) and elevators to aid commuters, especially those with luggage or mobility challenges.
  • It is fully air-conditioned, which will be a considerable comfort in Noida’s heat, especially for those frequently switching between metro lines.

Previous Situation: The Pain Points

Before this skywalk:

  • Commuters had to exit one station, use temporary walkways or even take e-rickshaws, then re-enter the other station. This was time-consuming, inconvenient, and costly.
  • There was a 300-metre walkway covered with tin sheds, which was eventually demolished to make way for this skywalk.

Timeline & Delays

  • Construction started in March 2023 with a budget of ~₹ 40 crore.
  • The project faced several delays. Reasons included changes in design—initially planned with a single pillar, later changed to two pillars—plus regulatory and construction-related hurdles.
  • As of September 30, NMRC expects finishing touches to be completed so the skywalk can open to the public on October 2.

What Commuters Can Expect

  • Easier, safer, and faster transfer between Blue Line (Sector 52) and Aqua Line (Sector 51) without having to exit the system.
  • No need for separate tickets when switching between lines—though ticketing integration still needs to be confirmed.
  • Likely reduced congestion and better pedestrian flow around the stations.

Things Watching For

  • Whether both moving walkways and elevators are fully operational from Day One.
  • How ticketing works in the new skywalk setup—whether commuters will need separate tickets or if there’s some integration.
  • Crowd management and safety, especially during peak hours.
  • Whether nearby infrastructure like exits, signage, and last-mile connectivity also improves to support this new structure.
